If it wasn’t before 11am, this would make for a great drinking game:
Freedom
Liberty
Founders
Independence
Ryan’s speech just ended. His last word was “freedom.”

He (still Paul Ryan) actually just mentioned Ayn Rand. He thinks Democrats deliberately drove down the economy so they could blame Republicans and make a case for government intervention… “just like something out of an Ayn Rand novel.”

Apparently, Ron Paul (or Howard Roark) won the internal Republican debate. Individual liberty, “enduring principles of our founding,” pursuit of self-interest or some such thing. Now, Ryan is railing against “paper money.” At least the ubiquitous Reagan name-drops have seemingly been replaced by shout-outs to “the Founders.”

It was inevitable. The session has been open for 15 minutes and we’ve already have our first Democrats = Marx comparison, courtesy Paul Ryan. Now I think he’s saying the Dems are turning us all into wards of the state or something.

The streaming quality of this video is pretty bad, so I’m missing a lot of the lines. Paul Ryan is speaking now, and – surprise – he’s talking about the evils of government spending. The only interesting thing so far is how many conservatives seem to be big fans of the air quote. It’s weird.

In the mid-90s, a mini-comeback of slasher films was ignited when Kevin Williamson wrote the screenplay for Scream. Rather than taking credit for reviving the genre, Williamson always insisted that he had actually driven the final nail in the coffin by exposing all of its tricks. See, we were the Blockbuster Generation, too [...]

So, a little while ago, I posted the bit about the formation of the new Populist Caucus in the House. Thought it was pretty cool, so I started reading a bit more on it. Then, I made the mistake of reading the story’s comments section on Huffington Post. A sampling?
