Yup… just as there’s a boat for the wicked, there’s also a boat for the good.
Coming up with the list for the “good boat” just isn’t as much fun in general, but if I ever do set up such a boat, I will have to remember to save a seat for Ken Burns.
Just watched him [...]

Slow news day?

You wouldn’t think so… I mean, Norm Coleman conceded to Al Franken giving Democrats a 60th vote, U.S. troops are withdrawing from Iraq, and in the biggest news of all, my Orioles are 1 out away from winning a game against the Red Sox in which they had trailed 10-1.
Still, none can match the entertainment [...]

Just an annoyance:
I’ve been watching some of the fallout from the Specter switch on MSNBC and I can’t help but notice a complete disconnect between my definition of the far-right Republican base and the commentators’ definition of the Party’s base. Thomas Frank was right this week when he wrote “the commentariat has always thought ‘populism’ to be faintly ridiculous, a thing of mobs and pitchforks and windbag leaders more demagogue than CEO.”
Not unexpected from Frank (or David Sirota, Bob Borosage, Michael Kazin, or even Pat Buchanan…), but the Populist argument did get some unexpected support [...]

In the mid-90s, a mini-comeback of slasher films was ignited when Kevin Williamson wrote the screenplay for Scream. Rather than taking credit for reviving the genre, Williamson always insisted that he had actually driven the final nail in the coffin by exposing all of its tricks. See, we were the Blockbuster Generation, too [...]

Earlier today, I posted a blurb about some of the movies claimed by the Libbies. Turns out, in the late ’90s, the Orange County Register published a list of the Top 20 libertarian films as determined by the editors of the paper. The criteria they used? They looked for films “that encourage [...]

I keep meaning to post a link to one of my favorite pieces of video of the entire ‘08 campaign… the day NBC News lost Andrea Mitchell to a sea of Republican balloons…
