Guess yesterday was the day that marked the beginning of phase 2 of the Presidential race: the running mate speculation. Granted, political junkies have been guessing for months (that’s the only way to establish the “long shot” pick), but something yesterday seemed to have mainstreamed the conversation.

What was it I wrote a while back about the comfort of old foes?

Better yet, how about that nugget of wisdom from Richard Nixon – the warning to the media following his defeat in the ’62 California governor’s race that they wouldn’t “have Nixon to kick around anymore.”

Sure, there are always fun targets, things to complain about, news to analyze… but damn it, few are as much fun to pick on as Ron Paul. Better yet, few are as much fun to pick on as Ron Paul supporters, the heirs apparent to the old LaRouche crazies. So, yeah, I definitely felt a bit of satisfaction when I read about the Ron Paul supporters planning a vocal revolt at the Republican Convention. I have images of flat-topped McVeigh looking militia types protesting alongside young hipster anarchists, mixed in with a handful of economics professors who preach the gospel of the gold standard in freshman lectures (with more than a few of those hipster anarchists in attendance).
