23 days left in the campaign, and it seems like a fun time to start some post-election predictions (originally, I was going to go back through old predictions I’ve made here and see how I did. I still might after the election, but that doesn’t seem like nearly as much fun right now.)

Fun with conventional wisdom! [sidenote: Ok, my mockery of conventional wisdom is about to gain a bit of irony; I’m prefacing this entire thought on the new – as in, last 48 hours – “conventional wisdom” that Tim Kaine is the most likely running mate for Obama.]
But what’s with this conventional wisdom Olympic roadblock? Everyone assumes that Obama (and McCain for that matter) will either name their running mate before August 8 or not until after August 24 – the idea being that the American people will tune out any news that is made when volleyball is on TV. And that might be true.

Guess yesterday was the day that marked the beginning of phase 2 of the Presidential race: the running mate speculation. Granted, political junkies have been guessing for months (that’s the only way to establish the “long shot” pick), but something yesterday seemed to have mainstreamed the conversation.
